The World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP) has announced that 21-year-old James Mackey defeated over 3,000 other online players on Sunday to take home $580,000.
The Missouri native won Event 14 of the WCOOP, which attracted a field of 3,325 players meaning a prize pool of $3,325,000. Competing under the pseudonym ‘mig.com’, Mackey went for 18 hours before taking the ultimate prize after defeating a player going by the name of ‘chulwoo’.
Known as a confident player, after the final table had begun, another competitor proposed a split but the American responded by stating that there would be no split as long he was playing. He was even boasting about his performance on message boards during the competition.
Mackey won this year’s $5,000 NL Hold’em event at the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) 2007 after demolishing the final table in record time. He walked away with $730,000 after the fastest final table at the event and the quickest overall since 2003.
