Poker players on the European Masters circuit headed for the sunshine last week and Maciej Lipny had more to celebrate than just having some extra colour in his cheeks.

The Pole outlasted another capacity field of 288 players to take down the first prize of €66,240. Maciej started the final table as chip leader and after a few wobbles in the opening hour reasserted himself and went on to dominate proceedings.

After a series of knockouts, Maciej was left heads up with Finland’s Henri Ovasta, a battle that would last just 10 minutes. The chips went in with Ovasta unable to overturn Maciej’s two pair.

Dave Ulliott looked well placed to make a deep run, sitting near the top of the chip counts at the close of day one. The Devilfish was eventually eliminated in 31st place after his two pair was overturned by a river flush.

The EMOP circus now heads to Casino Estoril in Lisbon, Portugal from 25th to 28th March. Satellites are currently running on the Entraction network including DevilfishPoker.com .
