Luis Rufas leads record-breaking EPT Barcelona Day 2

Luis Rufas leads record-breaking EPT Barcelona Day 2

Wednesday, 24 November 2010

Yesterday the last of 758 players registered to the main event of the European Poker Tour’s seventh stop in Barcelona, with the 495 players who registered on Day 1b surpassing the total field from last year; despite the reduced buy-in the prize pool is even greater than 2009.

In total, 495 players put their €5,000 on a seat in Day 1b and 399 players from the opening flights will meet today to play out Day 2. The top 112 finishers in the event will be paid out and the first prize is a cool €825,000 of the near-four million Euro prize pool.

Chip leader heading into Day 2 is local player Luis Rufas who managed to turn his 30,000 starting stack into 232,100 by the conclusion of Day 1b. He is much luckier than some, including the following Team PokerStars Pros who entered and busted the same day: Daniel Negreanu, Dario Minieri, EPT head honcho John Duthie and William Thorson.

However, returning for Day 2 are “ElkY”, Liv Boeree (who took Day 1b to build her 30,000 into 29,600), Carlos Mortensen, Johnny Lodden (what does he think?), Kevin MacPhee and Michael Binger.

Roberto Romanello leads the British challenge with Andrew Ferguson, Ben Warrington, Surinder Sunar and Marc Foggin also nicely placed.
