Lucien Cohen wins EPT Deauville for €880,000

Tuesday, 1 February 2011

The sixth day of the PokerStars.fr European Poker Tour Deauville main event has concluded and local boy Lucien Cohen, a pest control mogul from Paris, rode his run of cards with the support of an Humberto Brenes-style plastic rat to victory and €880,000.

Cohen had tough competition at the final table, including Martin Jacobson at his third EPT final – second of this season – and Canadian pro Alex Wice, fresh from a runner-up finish at the 2010 WSOP and a win in the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up. Ultimately, it was Wice who gave Cohen the chips he needed to defeat Jacobson heads-up.

A massive hand saw Wice run A-Q into the Q-Q of Cohen, which held to ship him most of the chips. Soon after, he defeated a severely-outchipped Jacobson to take the honours and the record prize for this EPT after defeating a 891-strong field; the third-largest seen on the European Poker Tour after San Remo and London.

Commendations must go out to Kaspars Renga who turned his incredibly short stack into a €200,000 payday by riding the pay ladder up to fifth place. The full final table payouts were as follows:

1.Lucien Cohen €880,000
2.Martin Jacobson €560,000
3.Alex Wice €330,000
4.Julien Claudepierre €260,000
5.Kaspars Renga €200,000
6.Kenny Hallaert €155,000
7.Anthony Hnatow €110,000
8.Ruslan Prydryk €66,800
