London's Hippodrome Casino opens today

Friday, 13 July 2012

Poker players in the capital have a new venue to enjoy as the Hippodrome Casino on the corner of Charing Cross Road and Leicester Square opens today.

The casino is the brainchild of bingo hall magnates Simon Thomas and his father Jimmy who have spent millions on restoring the Grade II listed building to its former glory.

The new poker room is called The Top Deck and as the name suggests, lies high above the main gaming floor and will offer round-the-clock cash games. In addition to the poker room, Britain's largest casino also features two further gambling floors, five bars, a restaurant, four private dining rooms and a 200-seat cabaret theatre.

The venue will play host to a series of live shows starting with crooner Tony Christie, jazz chanteuse Kate Dimbleby, West End star Julian Ovenden and burlesque performer Polly Rae.
