Loic Sa leads PokerStars EPT Barcelona Day 1a

Tuesday, 23 November 2010

Yesterday was Day 1a of the PokerStars EPT Barcelona Main Event, the oldest stop on the European Poker Tour that aims to crown its seventh champion by the end of the week. In total 263 players stumped up the €5,000 buy-in and 137 survived for Day 2.

Today the tournament plays out Day 1b and hopes to beat the attendance of last year when Carter Phillips beat over 450 players to take down a first prize of €850,000 for beating the then-€8,000 buy-in event. Defending champion Phillips hit the rail alongside PokerStars Pros Lex Veldhuis and Darus Suharto.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the PokerStars Pros, though – Alexander Gomes, facing the prospect of heading home early against a turned full house with all the chips in the middle, hit his one out to a royal flush to stay alive and double up in the tournament.

Day 1b begins today – around now, actually, not that time has any relevance in an archived piece of text – but expect another strong field including Daniel Negreanu and Liv Boeree. For live updates you can visit the PokerStars Blog.
