PKR Heads-Up Grandslam – Live Report

Yesterday saw a number of top poker players face/off (Nic Cage vs John Travolta stylee) in the PKR Heads-Up Grandslam opening round. Held at the Mills Studio in London – rather East London I might add – this televised event is an exclusive tournament with a buy-in of £10,000.

Now, for the sake of general reference i'd like to add some random trivia to this update - Danny Boyle, director of SlumDog Millionaire, is a keen admirer of the studios – having used them to film parts of Twent Eight Days Later, Sunshine and Millions. All good films I might add – especially twenty-eight days later.


Anyway, back to the poker. Some big names were extended the special invite to this event including Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan, Ilari ‘Ziigmund’ Sahamies, Dave the ‘Devilfish’, Luke Schwartz, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Tony G and a number of others. Also trying their luck are some of PKR’s online qualifiers.

Yesterday, during Round 1, we lost durrrr, Timoshenko, Sahamies and both Laak and his lady friend accompani-ment Jennifer Tilly – amongst others. The field was halved, naturally, and 16 now remain from the original 32.


Action today is already underway and three matches have been completed thus far. Duthie, who defeated the durrrr man yesterday has crashed out to David Steike. Also through to Round 3 is Tony G and Vladmir Geshkenbein, who beat Sandra Naujoks and Brahim Hajji respecitvely.
