Luke Schwartz exits as Alec Torelli Makes PKR HUGS Quarter-Finals

Saturday, 10 October 2009

The PKR Heads-Up Grand Slam has continued, with heads-up specialist and sometime Bluff Europe contributor Alec Torelli defeating Antonio Esfandiari to make it through to the quarter finals.

Torelli bested the Iranian pro when he made a flush against two pair, but the deciding hand really came earlier – all-in on the flop of 9h-7h-2h, Esfandiari was way ahead with Jh-4h while Torelli trailed with Th-8h. Sure enough, the 6h; his single out, came on the river to ship him the huge pot with a straight flush.

Torelli will play Tony G in the quarter-finals; the winner of that match will then play either Juha Helppi or Ian Frazer. Helppi played the longest match of the tournament so far, eventually defeating EPT London winner Vicky Coren with KT against K8.

PKR pro James Sudworth also had a good run yesterday. He defeated Lex Veldhuis in the quarter finals after Lex defeated Luke Schwartz in the round before. Sudworth will play Vladmir Geshkenbein in the other semi-final.
