Black and Sexton through to Party Poker World Open V Final

Thursday, 15 October 2009

“The best feeling I’ve had a about a hand in ages!” said Andy Black after sealing his place in the final of the World Open V. “The Monk” dominated proceedings in heat V, building up an early chip advantage that he never relinquished.

The Irishman outlasted Liam Flood, Andrew Feldman, Richard Mackinnon, John Magill and Richard Mackinon to set up a heads up encounter with Party Poker pro Bodo Sbreszny. Black sealed the victory, calling the German’s A6 shove with Q9. A queen duly arrived on the flop to send Sbreszny through to the runner up heat.

Joining Black at the final will be Mike Sexton. The Party Poker ambassador kept his cool at what proved to be a fiery table, eventually knocking out Internet qualifier Daniel Drescher to take the win. Heads up play was over within the blink of an eye, the chips going in with Sexton hitting two pair and Drescher a flush draw on a real action flop. A 5 on the turn gave the American a full house and with it a seat at the final table.

The runner up turbo qualifier takes place this morning. Christian Schafer, Patrick Funke, Teddy Sheringham, Neil Channing, Drescher and Sbreszny will compete for the last seat at the final table.
