Linster tops WPT Jacksonville bestbet Open

Wednesday, 1 May 2013

At the start of yesterday’s World Poker Tour (WPT) Jacksonville bestbet Open final, it looked as though the title would be decided relatively quickly thanks to four players hitting the rail in just over three hours.

Indeed, after David Diaz hit the rail in sixth place for $46,673, the elimination floodgates seemed to open as Pete Tinnesz, Pete Chwala and Danny Schechter all had their chips washed away.

The rush of eliminations left David Bell, who started the day third in chips, and Michael Linster to battle for the title.

With Bell having played an aggressive style of poker throughout the day, many assumed the match would be decided quickly. However, despite Bell surging to a seven-to-one chip lead at one point, Linster was able to continually grind his opponent down.

After almost four hours of fighting the pair finally found a way to bring the match to a conclusion. With Linster holding a two-to-one chip lead he eventually caught Bell making a loose four-bet all-in with 8d-6d. Without hesitation Linster called with Ah-Qd and, after the board ran out Js-5h-2c-4d-Td, he was finally able to scoop the remainder of Bell’s chips and claim his first WPT trophy.

After bringing the lights down on its latest tournament, the crew from the WPT will now be heading for Canada for the Spring Championship in Montreal.

Final results for WPT Jacksonville bestbet Open:

1 Mike Linster $321,521

2 David Bell $175,712

3 Danny Schechter $115,311

4 Pete Chwala $79,619
