Leg 9 of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour was wrapped up late Sunday evening when Robert Boon took first place and marginally less than £120,000 at ‘The Vic’ in London. The final table of nine had started the day having outlasted 424 others, and were all guaranteed at least £10,820. Coming into the final day, there were players of the calibre of Ian Cox and John Kabbaj, but Kabbaj ended up in seventh with Cox hitting the rail in fifth. Heads up came down to Leo Kam and Robert Boon, plus a whole plethora of camera men catching the action for broadcast later in the year. Boon had a 4-1 chip lead on Kam early-doors, but the impetus soon fell to Kam who doubled up when his push on the flush draw was called and hit the fifth diamond on the river. From there Boon was on the back foot, and the critical hand came when Robert called an all-in check-raise with AT on a Q 8 5 board only to find Leo with KQ. Leo wrapped up the win around 10.30pm, and will certainly look forward to his Monday morning a little more than most of us.
