Lewis Hunter wins GUKPT Manchester

Monday, 30 January 2012

Lewis Hunter has won the opening leg of the new Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) season. The Scot outran a 171-runner field at Manchester's G Casino to pocket a first prize of almost £50,000.

It could have all been so very different for Hunter though, who was in real danger of being the tournament bubble boy. All in with pocket tens against Kev Steele's aces, Hunter spiked a tournament changing ten to put him right back in contention.

Hunter took that momentum through to the final table and once again locked horns with Kev Steele when play went heads up. The Scot managed to overturn a two to one chip lead against the double PokerStars Sunday Million winner, eventually sealing the win on an ace high board with A10 against Steele's A9.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st £49,600 Lewis Hunter
2nd £34,630 Kev Steele
3rd £21,800 Allan Doyle
4th £13,250 Danny Blair
5th £10,260 Sam Grafton
6th £8,120 Gary Holden
7th £6,410 Gonzalez Garcia
8th £4,700 John Hanley
9th £3,420 Chris Kadji
