280-students gave up the revision and coursework, for a couple of days at least, as the Betfred UK Student Poker Championship hit the Ricoh Arena Casino in Coventry.

In the end it was Lewis Hield who took the honours, turning his £35 buy-in into a very impressive £2,190 (plus a seat in the Dublin Deepstack Event). The Sussex University student beat Exeter University's Villus Semenas heads up, the key hand coming on a 2-6-7-J-5 board with Semenas holding 4-3 for the bottom end of the straight crushed by Hield's 9-8 for the top end.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st Lewis Hield (Sussex) £2,190 and a Dublin DeepStack Package
2nd Villus Semenas (Exeter) £1,460
3rd Nick Birkett (Manchester) £960
4th Sam Keltie (Southampton) £740
5th Damon Wilson (Surrey) £455
6th George Wright (Exeter) £370
7th Will Fasano (Exeter) £285
8th Matt Johnson (Leicester) £225
9th Mark Etchels (Gloucestershire) £160
