The Grand Final of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte Carlo Grand Final was always going to be a star-studded tournament. Even with a steep €10,000 buy-in, 396 competitors were arranged across the tables on Day 1a.

Annette Obrestad and John Juanda, WSOP Main Event champions Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer helped to make up the numbers, as did poker legends Erik Seidel and Phil Ivey.
A 30,000 starting stack didn’t prevent some relatively early bust-outs, however. Phil Ivey, Mike McDonald, Tony G and Greg Raymer were just some of the famous faces to hit the rail early.
Annette Obrestad, JJ Liu, Humberto Brenes and James Obst joined 2005 Aussie Millions Champion and Kill Phil author Lee Nelson in the list of survivors from Day 1a but none could match his impressive stack.
