Late Night Poker holds a special place in the hearts of many UK poker players. For many of us it was the show that ignited our interest in poker, being the first to show the hole cards and capture the thought processes of some of the games biggest names and characters. The return of the show this year saw many of those same players come back to recapture of glory of years gone by, but it was young Swede who had other ideas and seized the moment as his own.
Andreas had to beat some of the best players in Europe, including the man who is in form Andy Black, and respected English pro Roland De Wolfe, who he bested in heads-up play to win the $125,000 first prize. In the final hand, Jorbeck’s A-T hit the flop square in the face when it came A-A-K, and he was able to get De Wolfe to commit his chips there and then. De Wolfe’s K-3 was a long way behind the top set, and didn’t hit the miracle outdraw required.
Andreas was dignified in victory:
“Roland played really well throughout,” he said. “But I started to relax and adopt a more aggressive approach when we were three handed. To win an event as prestigious as Late Night Poker against Europe’s top professionals in my first live event is quite something. I’ve been playing online poker for around four years with relatively small stakes and never thought something like this would happen to me.”
The event was broadcast in the UK on Channel 4 and attracted a devoted following over the last number of week.
