When Late Night Poker first appeared on Channel 4 in 1999, it revolutionised people's perception of poker. It brought the game out of the shadows and made it accessible to everyone. For the first time on television it exposed the exciting drama inherent in the game and sparked a nationwide obsession with poker.
Seven years later poker is the epitome of cool, lauded in the broadsheets, celebrated in the glossies, played by celebrities, and by just about everybody else too.
This year an exciting new event, organised by PartyPoker.com, takes place. 'Late Night Poker Ace' is a unique new tournament to find the very best amateur poker player in the UK, with a prize pot of £100,000. Qualification for the tournament is online, and the best 42 players will battle in Cardiff in July in a fiercely competitive series of heats to discover a new poker star – the very first Late Night Poker Ace champion.
