LadbrokesPoker.com provided some astonishing statistics this week that really puts the much talked about Internet poker explosion into perspective. The online card room announced that it has dealt its 100 millionth hand of cards since it began its operations in May 2002. Ladbrokes add that they are currently dealing an extraordinary 500,000 hands of poker per day and at the busiest time over 5,000 people from 65 different countries are playing against each other on over 600 virtual tables.
The player to receive the hand was Mike Ventham, a sales manager from Croydon, Surrey, and he won £10,000 in won of the biggest online table pots ever. Ladbrokes eGaming Managing Director, John O’Reilly, said: “High stakes and the art of online bluffing have made online Poker one of the biggest sensations of the last decade. In just over a year, the industry has grown at a prolific rate. This time last year we were dealing around 170,000 hands a day, today that figure has reached over 500,000 a day – it’s been astounding growth.”
