Ladbrokes made an innovative announcement when deciding that this year’s LECOP III Main Event, with a guaranteed prize pool of $750,000, was to be run over two days. Day One commenced on Saturday 4pm and was played until midnight, with remaining players coming back the following day at 4pm.
Edward Ihre, who is the newly appointed Marketing Director of Ladbrokes Poker said, ‘We want players to win tournaments at Ladbrokespoker.com because they play well, not because they outlast other players in what's an endurance test! We're keen for our LEOCOP main event to be more about the skill of the poker player and not about their ability to cope with near exhaustion. The two day format that we've devised is more in keeping with how world class offline events are ran and mean that 'railbirders' get to watch the final table in real time, without having to stay up half of the night. I don't think it will be long before others follow our lead.’
The Championship is now into its third year, and was won last year by Graeme ‘Grazza’ Newman, netting $230,000 from a total prize pool of $920,000 and the title of LECOP Champion.
