LA Poker Classic to smash records in 2010

Thursday, 26 November 2009

The 2010 LA Poker Classic will smash records, promise the WPT. The 50-event tournament series includes the $10,000 WPT Championship over 43 days at the Commerce Casino. Organisers are estimating a prize pool over $20,000,000.

"This LAPC is longer, bigger and richer," PokerNewsDaily heard from John Griffo, the casino's director of marketing and advertising. "With $20 million at stake, what poker player wouldn't want to be at Commerce?"

The events kick off on January 21 with a $335 NLHE tournament guaranteeing $1,000,000 in the prize pool. It is not a re-buy event, but players eliminated on one of the three start days can re-enter on another if they are busted out.

The schedule also includes an 8-Game event, a 2-7 Triple Draw tournament, a break-free “Iron Man” tournament as well as a Badugi event. In addition, a $25,000 High Roller event is expected to bring out the cream of the crop.

"Commerce Casino has truly become a year-round haven for poker players," said Tournament Director Matt Savage. "As such, we felt it important to create an LAPC schedule that caters to recreational and professional players alike.

"That is why we have kept traditional events and inserted new games to the mix, and have buy-ins ranging from $220 to a heart-pounding $25,100."
