The LA Poker Classic Championship (LAPC) event at the Commerce Casino has smashed records for largest field and largest prize money ever for a $10,000-buy-in World Poker Tour (WPT) event and for a WPT event in the US.

The LA Poker Classic Championship (LAPC) event at the Commerce Casino has smashed records for largest field and largest prize money ever for a $10,000-buy-in World Poker Tour (WPT) event and for a WPT event in the US.
A field of 790 seasoned pros and aspiring amateurs swelled the prize money to a huge $7,593.600.
The winner will go home with $2,429,970 and a $25,000 seat in the WPT World Championship in April at Bellagio in Las Vegas; the largest first prize ever for a non-championship WPT event. The second place finisher will claim $1,177,010, with 54 players sharing in the prize pool.
The WPT's largest field ever was set only weeks before in the Bahamas with a field of 937. Here, the field was fuelled by online qualifiers, with a buy-in of $8,000.
'While many have claimed that poker's popularity has peaked,” said casino manager Tim Gustin, “Commerce Casino's record WPT field at the LA Poker Classic, shows how wrong they are.”
“We are thrilled that our winner will also be taking home a record first prize for a non-championship WPT event,' continued Gustin.
The LAPC attracted poker luminaries Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Todd Brunson, Gus Hansen, Erick Lindgren, Chip Reiss, Cyndy Violette, Antonio Esfandiari and many more.
Last year's champion, Alan Goehring, went home with $2,391,550.
