Kuljinder Sidhu wins GUKPT Manchester

Monday, 26 April 2010

Numbers were down substantially for the latest leg of the GUKPT in Manchester (192 this year compared to 296 in 2009) but Kuljinder Sidhu won't be complaining after his biggest tournament victory to date.

Sidhu, from Birmingham, defeated birthday boy and overnight chip leader Chris Brammer in a blink and you'll miss it heads up clash. The chips went in on the opening hand of heads up play with Brammer holding AQ and Sidhu pocket 6s. The pocket pair held up leaving Brammer crippled with just 200,000 chips. Brammer put those 200,000 in on the very next hand holding J7. Unfortunately for the 21-year-old he was up against a dominated K7. A King on the flop sealed the deal leaving the 29-year-old Brummie celebrating the biggest win of his career.

Sidhu pocketed £54,850 plus a seat in the £150,000 GUKPT Champion of Champions event. Speaking on the GUKPT blog after his win the professional gambler said, “I thought that if I were to win anywhere, it would be here, as it’s the only one I have cashed in before...I’ve never played so calmly before and was fully focused on the job in hand. I’m usually constantly on my phone, but this time I put it to one side.”

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
