Monday, 16 November 2009

Kristoffer Thorsson has been crowned a Master of Poker after winning the €6,000 buy-in Amsterdam Classic over the weekend. The Swede outlasted a field of 342-runners to claim the biggest win of his fledgling career and with it a first prize of €636,120.

The youngster started the final table second in chips and kept that momentum throughout the last day to set up a heads up encounter with Saydam Ozgur. The chips went in after 40 hands with Thorsson holding top pair and Ozgur an open ended straight draw and two overcards. The turn and river were both blanks leaving Thorsson to celebrate the title. The young Swede’s only previous live cash was an $11,000 score in the PCA $925 side event earlier this year.

Ben Roberts led the British challenge, eventually finishing in eighth for a €45,144 pay day.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Kristoffer Thorsson €636,120
2 Saydam Ozgür €365,256
3 Nicklas Mattson €211,356
4 Andras Nemeth €135,432
5 Tim van de Riet €108,756
6 Kenny Hallaert €86,184
7 Thierry van den Berg €65,664
8 Ben Roberts €45,144
9 Fatima Moreira de Melo €32,832
