Kevin Stammen Wins WSOP Event #13, $2.5k NLHE

Phil Ivey has already made bracelet number six in this year’s WSOP but when his name was part of the final 20 out of 655 players in the $2,500 No-Limit Hold ‘em event, it looked hopeful that he would win his seventh.

However, he began the day with a stack of only 31,000 compared to an average of 300,000 or so. Arriving late, he made one double-up before being eliminated when his QT couldn’t suck out against Roberto Piro’s AJ.

Eventually Kevin Stammen made the cut after two 13-hour days and one eight-hour slog from 20 players to one. Last year, “Stamdogg” made four cashes but this marks his first bracelet.

When heads up began, Stammen enjoyed a better than 2-to-1 chip advantage over Guillen. He increased his lead, but Guillen fought back. Just when it was looking like a long heads-up battle, it was all over – Jh-9h for Guillen on a 9s-8h-2h board went up against Stammen’s JJ, which held despite the scary Tc on the turn.

Stammen won $506,786 for his victory.
