Kevin Eyster scoops WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown title

Wednesday, 17 April 2013

Kevin Eyster has won the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown event from the World Poker Tour (WPT) taking place in Hollywood, Florida, after maintaining a chip lead that began on the third day of the five-day competition.

After leading for the initial two days, Shaun Deeb was highly tipped to take down the event but the New Yorker was subsequently sent packing in 41st place during the third session leaving the way open for Eyster to get comfortable and build up his chip count.

Known online as ‘1SickDisease’, Eyster proved his pedigree throughout the final table with a solid performance that saw him outlast seasoned professionals including Jeff Madsen, Daniel Letts and Paul Dlugozima.

Avoiding the rush of Zo Karim that saw him double up three times to rise from short stack to one of the chip leaders, Eyster eventually ousted the volatile player with two pair. Facing a Kd-5d-3s-Ts board, Eyster called Karim’s all-in with Kc-Qh. At this point Karim held the lead with pocket aces but after the Qs landed on the river it was another pot for Eyster as Karim became a stepping stone towards the title.

Holding a commanding chip lead in the final match against Ben Tarzia, Eyster wasted little time with his opponent in a classic race situation. After Tarzia moved all-in with pocket sevens, Eyster made the call with Ac-Tc and, after spiking two pair, collected his prize money.

Final standing of the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown:

1 Kevin Eyster $660,395

2 Ben Tarzia $389,750

3 Zo Karim $252,190

4 Paul Dlugozima $171,950

5 Daniel Letts $122,275

6 Jeff Madsen $100,000
