Julian Kabitzke is The One

There was a German one-two in Monte Carlo over the weekend after Julian Kabitzke beat Alexander Dubas to take EverestPoker.com's €1m guaranteed event The One.

Kabitzke outlasted a 221-runner field that included such notables as Isabelle Mercier, former EPT Berlin winner Kevin MacPhee as well as former French national football manager Raimond Domenech to take the first prize of €300,000.

WPT Venice and WPT Vienna finalist Alessio Isaia continued his red hot form with another final table. Adrian Aston led the British challenge, eventually busting out in seventh for €47,500.

No one could match Kabitzke though. All the chips went into the middle on a 10-8-3 board with Kabitzke's pocket queens well in front of Dubas's 10-7. The turn and river were bricks leaving the former chess player to celebrate his biggest tournament victory to date.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1: Julian Kabitzke (DE) — €300,000
2: Alexander Debus (DE) — €170,000
3: Joel Dodds (AUS) — €112,000
4: Alessio Isaia (IT) — €90,000
5: Xavier Carruggi (FR) — €75,000
6: Julien Pouchain (FR) — €58,000
7: Adrian Aston (UK) — €47,500
8: Marc Sander (DE) — €37,000
9: Manuel Bevand (FR) — €26,350
