Josephy and Wheeler Claim WSOP Honours

Thursday, 6 June 2013

Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy is one of the fathers of online poker and in the last few hours he’s proved that while form might be temporary, skill is permanent. Having made his way to the final ten of the $3,000 NLHE Shootout, Josephy managed to clinch his second WSOP bracelet.

Eight years after claiming his first title, Josephy added another highlight to his poker CV after besting Evan Silverstein heads-up. The pair had managed to come through a tough final table, which included Tim West, Chris Klodnicki and David “Bakes” Baker, but when the final battle ensued it was Josephy who dominated.
After 46 hands of back-and-forth play, Josephy finally found the right time to trap Silverstein after raising to 60,000 pre-flop with As 2d. After a moment’s deliberation Silverstein moved all-in with Kh Ts prompting a measured call from Josephy. With all his chips at risk, Silverstein had a world of potential on the 5h Qh Jh flop, however, as the 3d and 5c fell on the turn and river, he saw his chances of a bracelet slip away.
While Josephy was bagging another WSOP bracelet, Brent Wheeler was busy picking up a piece of silverware in Event #10. Having made his way past 644 players, Wheeler was able to scoop $191,605 after beating Mark Mierkalns heads-up in the $1,500 Limit Hold’em event.
