Jonny Hewston avoids prison over unpaid court fines

Cannock based poker pro Jonny ‘Texas’ Hewston has narrowly avoided a spell at Her Majesty’s pleasure due to the timely intervention of his wife. The former World Open runner up was facing the prospect of a three-month spell behind bars due unpaid motoring fines totalling £2,772. He left Cannock Magistrates court a free man though after his wife produced the cash on the spot to pay the fine.

It’s not the end of Hewston’s legal issues though. The 47-year-old is facing a trading standards investigation into one of his companies, Imperial Driveways. Speaking in Birmingham’s Sunday Mercury newspaper, Hewston confirmed that the company had gone into liquidation but added that he has every intention of refunding customers. “There are two sides to every story – what about the companies that owe me money? That was the start of it all. Who is fighting my corner?

“I’ve received no correspondence from Trading Standards. They know I do put things right, I don’t hide from things. When I’m in a position to, I will put things straight. Those who have a problem need to be told that.”

Hewston is no stranger to controversy as can be witnessed in his new autobiography, From Sixpence To Dollars, which documents his rags to riches story and includes details on his spells in prison and in a mental hospital.
