Jonathan Karamalikis wins APPT Grand Final

Jonathan Karamalikis wins APPT Grand Final

Monday, 13 December 2010

We were expecting a big name to emerge victorious at the APPT Grand Final in Sydney over the weekend and at 19 letters Jonathan Karamalikis certainly qualifies.

Karmalikis, who plays online with the superb moniker xMONSTERxDONGx, saw off a final table that included more established big names Daniel Negreanu and Roland De Wolfe to pocket a first prize of AU$459,510 (around £287k).

The victory crowned an amazing year for the 22-year-old Aussie who won his first title at the $1,650 bounty event at this year's Aussie Millions. He followed that up by making the final table of the $100,000 Challenge then took down ANZPT High Roller events in both Sydney and Melbourne. His tournament winnings have now topped the US$1m mark taking him into the top 10 of Aussie tournament earners.

"This is the most meaningful," said Karamalikis of the win. "This is obviously the biggest (tournament) I've ever won, by far. It's quite a prestigious title, so I'm really glad to have it under my belt."
