The Normandy Hotel in Renfrew will be the venue for what promises to be the biggest ever live poker event held on Scottish soil. A field of around 2,000 runners is expected for the £12 buy in event with organisers hoping to raise upwards of £20,000 for Erskine Hospital, a facility which specialises in nursing and medical care for former services personnel.

The tournament will feature four 500 player qualifying heats with 10 players from each going through to the 40 man Grand Final on Saturday 30th May. Prizes worth £60,000 are on offer including packages to the 2010 Irish Open, holidays to Las Vegas as well as trips to the Cheltenham Festival and the Ayr Gold Cup.

The full schedule is as follows:

Heat 1 - Saturday, 16th May
Heat 2 - Sunday, 17th May
Heat 3 - Saturday, 23rd May
Heat 4 - Sunday, 24th May
Grand Final - Saturday, 30th May

Erskine's Chief Executive Colonel Martin Gibson said "Our charity cares for over 1,350 veterans every year throughout the country and without the support of organisations like Paddy Power we would not be able to offer the highest standard of care that our ex-Service men and women so richly deserve."

A spokesman for PaddyPower added "We are delighted to sponsor this tournament and look forward to not only hosting Scotland's biggest ever poker event but also to raising much needed funds for this incredibly worthwhile organisation."
