John Tabatabai wins WCOOP bracelet IN $320 PLO 6-max

Friday, 23 September 2011

John Tabatabai must be pretty happy with his latest score, especially since he wasn’t even intending to even play out the tournament in question. His friend asked why he wasn’t playing Event #43 of the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker, a $320 rebuy PLO 6-max event that carried a $350,000 guarantee.

The WSOPE 2007 runner-up replied that he didn’t think he had a big edge on the field, to which his friend offered to buy his action. Tabatabi only wound up in the tournament for an additional rebuy and the add-on; both he and his friend were glad of the $920 investment when he beat Tsubi87 heads-up to take down the bracelet and $102,543.

Tabatabai, under his PokerStars handle of HonestPete, arrived at the final table third of six and battled through to heads-up. He began heads-up with a big chip lead and despite a double up from Tsubi87, Tabatabai got it in holding K-K-Q-J to Q-T-9-2. Despite his opponent flopping a gutshot and backdoor flush draws, the kings held up to ship him the tournament.

The final table payouts were as follows:
1. John “HonestPete” Tabatabai - $102,543
2. Tsubi87 - $75,558
3. PickyTooth - $55,320
4. L.O_4cus - $37,779
5. LenaKab - $26,985
6. Messiah55 - $16,785

Tabatabai is a regular tutor at the Bluff Europe Poker Academy. Found out more about the next session on Sunday 9th October by clicking here.
