There was a home win in the opening International Poker Open (IPO) event of 2014 with John O'Shea taking the honours in Galway.
The Boyle Poker sponsored pro battled his way through a 606 runner field at the city's Radisson Blu Hotel and pocketed €21,780 for his efforts.O'Shea started the final table with almost half the chips in play and hardly put a foot wrong en route to heads up play with fellow Irishman Geoff Healy. With a big chip lead at the start of two-handed action it seemed as if it would just be a matter of time before O'Shea claimed the title.A couple of early double ups for Healy soon scuppered that though and with the stacks about even the pair agreed a chop that would see both walk away with €17,820 with almost €4,000 on top for the winner. It didn't take long for O'Shea to finish things off, turning a set with pocket tens to crush Healy's pocket fours. The final table positions and payouts were as follows:1st John O'Shea €21,7802nd Geoff Healy €17,8203rd Damien Feeney €9,2504th Petras Stulpinas €6,5005th Patrick Humphreys €5,0006th Brendan Byrne €4,0007th Paulius Venckauskas €3,2508th Yutaka Mitsuishi €2,600The IPO crosses the Irish Sea next month for its second stop in England.
