John Keown wins Irish Winter Festival

Tuesday, 1 November 2011

The paddypowerpoker.com Irish Winter Festival concluded last night with John Keown taking home the top honours – oh, and a hundred thousand euros. He defeated Noel O’Brien heads-up to take home the six-figure prize.

Not only that, Keown qualified for the event via sponsors Paddy Power. By winning the tournament, he not only outlasted every player but also every qualifier, winning the €20,000 Sole Survivor package.

In the final hand, Keown called O’Brien’s shove holding Ad-5c, ahead of the Kc-6c of his opponent but not by much. The board gave no sweat, running out queen high and giving neither player a pair to keep Keown in the lead and ship him the tournament.

In addition to the €100,000 first prize, Keown takes home the €20,000 Sole Survivor package open to all PaddyPowerPoker qualifiers – if you win your seat via satellite and outlast all other qualifiers, you are the Sole Survivor. Of course, the easiest way to make sure you outlast everyone is to reach the final table and win the whole shebang.

Paddypowerpoker.com is already hosting satellites for the 2012 Irish Open. Qualify with a bonus of up to $2,000. Sign up here.
