Johannes Jorgensen wins Poker in the Sky

Wednesday, 16 September 2009

Local player Johannes Jorgensen has won Poker In The Sky and with it a $13,000 package to next month’s World Open V. The Copenhagen native showed that he had a head for heights as well as poker, winning the tournament while perched on a table suspended 50 metres above the ground. The elevated location proved too much for Danish pro Theo Jorgensen who cried off citing a fear of heights.

Voice of poker Jesse May, who was commentating on the tournament said “The idea of a game 50 metres up was spectacular and it was brilliant how the crowds gathered below. Congratulations to Johannes, he’ll have quite some story for the World Open. It must have been a great feeling getting pocket rockets in the sky!”

After returning to terra firma the delighted winner said “I’m not at all scared of heights and am a fan of bungee jumping so I targeted players who I thought were keen to get down as quick as possible with aggressive play! In addition, I targeted those who I deduced had less experience. I think there were better players than me on the platform but I kept out of their way as much as possible. The strategy worked.”

Jorgensen will join the likes of Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan, Luke ‘_FullFlush_’ Schwartz, Neil Channing, Ian Frazer and Mike Sexton in the World Open that takes place between 11th and 15th October at Mayfair’s Palm Beach Casino.
