Joel “2FLY2TILT” Gordon wins second WCOOP bracelet

Wednesday, 7 September 2011

In WCOOP 2009, a former tennis pro aged 23 named Joel Adam Gordon picked up a WCOOP bracelet in NL 2-7 Single Draw under the screen name of 2FLY2TILT. The name proves true still, Gordon was too fly to tilt on his way to a second WCOOP bracelet last night in the Triple Stud event.

The Triple Stud tournament – Stud, Stud 8 and Razz rotated – drew 534 players; with $215 put up each that’s a six-figure prize pool and a first prize of $20,185. A tough-as-nails field of old school Stud players turned out (well, those who know how to use a computer. Hi Grandpa!) as well as the online kids trying mixed games.

2FLY2TILT dominated the final table, getting heads-up with mddgfc holding a greater than 4-1 chip lead. However, mddgfc quickly gained it back and soon stacks were evened up. In the final hand, mddgfc commited his chips in Stud 8 holding [5-2]-3-K-K-8 for a pair and a low draw; 2FLY2TILT matched him holding [T-9]-9-8-7 for a straight draw and a pair of nines. The river delivered a queen to mddgfc but a second seven to 2FLY2TILT, giving him two pair and no low to scoop the pot and take down the tournament.

In other WCOOP events, Russian player “ranayr” beat a field of 566 players to win $19,608 for taking down Event #7, Pot-Limit 5 Card Draw. The biggest event of the night was the $320 NL Shootout, which sold out to 1,256 players and saw Mossop7 take down $62,210.
