The Genting Poker Big Game was hosted at the Cromwell Mint Casino for the first time last night and the new venue crowned a new champion with Joe Laming taking the honours.
Laming is no stranger to tournament success in the capital having previously won the Fox Poker Club Main Event for over £10,000 and the Londoner added a further £12,000 to his bankroll yesterday evening after outlasting a 44-runner field. There were plenty of big names on show at the Mint last night including former winner Luke Schwartz, Genting pro Daiva Baruskaite, GPS Grand Final winner Elliot Panyi, Team IveyPoker's James Dempsey and even World Darts Championship runner up Michael Van Gerwen but none could match Laming though. The youngster worked his way through a final table that included Ben Vinson, Hendon Mobster Joe Beevers and August Big Game runner up Romano Pizzo to set up a heads up battle with Andy Kitchlew.Laming ground his way into a dominant lead and eventually sealed victory after calling Kitchlew's short-stacked shove with pocket aces. The in the money finishers were as follows:1st - Joe Laming - £12,0002nd - Andy Kitchlew - £9,0003rd - Romano Pizzo - £9,000 4th - Danny Toffel - £9,0005th - Joe Beevers - £9,000 6th - Ben Vinson - £1,0007th - Rory Matthews - £1,000 The next leg of the £1,000+£80 Genting Big Game takes place on Monday 4 February 2013.
