Lancashire's cricketers celebrated their first County Championship victory in 77 years on Thursday and there was more glory for the red rose county at the poker tables this weekend as Blackburn's Jehan 'Johnny' Zaib took the English Deepstack Poker Championship.

A total of 225 runners headed to Birmingham's Broadway Casino, attracted by the huge starting stacks, a one hour clock and a very chunky prize pool. After three days of play it was Zaib who was the man with all 11m chips. The feat was all the more impressive considering that he started the final table as the short stack with just 325,000 chips.

After the elimination of Ash Ahmed in third it was left to Zaib and Aamir Masood to battle it out for the almost £28,000 first prize. With an 8m to 3m chip lead it was Masood who was in pole position at the start of two-handed play but Zaib clawed his way back into contention after hitting a succession of big hands.

It took three and a half hours for the title to be decided with the chips hitting the middle with Zaib holding top pair against Masood's middle pair and flush draw. The river was a blank leaving the Blackburn veteran to celebrate his five figure pay day.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Jehan "Johnny" Zaib £27,850
2 Aamir "muckthenuts" Masood £17,650
3 Ash Ahmed £13,000
4 Steve Ball £10,000
5 Andy King £7,500
6 Ron Mathiessen £5,200
7 James Power £4,000
8 Jim Tierney £3,000
9 James Shaw £2,400

The next stop on D4 Events' Deepstack calendar is the European Deepstack Championship which will be held in Dublin from 7th to 12th February 2012.
