Jeffrey Carris Wins WSOP Event #22, NLHE Shootout

Monday, 15 June 2009

Exactly 1,000 players put up $1,500 cold hard cash to compete in the WSOP Event #22, the No-Limit Hold ‘em shootout match. Jeffrey Carris, backed by almost 30 fans cheering themselves hoarse at the rail, won three tables in fine succession to take the title, the bracelet and $313,673.

A final table featuring Mike Shannon, Andrew Margolis and Jason Somerville was never going to be the easiest to overcome, but Carris outlasted the four-figure field to claim the lion’s share of a $1.3m prize pool.

After only 20 minutes of heads-up play against Jason Somerville, Carris was crowned the new champion of event #22. The two got it in with essentially rags – however, Carris’s K5o was a little less raggy than Somerville’s Q6o and it held up on a blank board to take the pot with King high.
