Jay Farber's Broken Bet

Jay Farber's Broken Bet

Thursday, 2 January 2014

Jay Farber might have enjoyed a healthy dose of luck when he parlayed a $10,000 punt into a second place finish in last year's WSOP Main Event, but just before New Year's Eve it seems he didn't run quite as well.

Joining sports fans across the world by watching the much anticipated mixed martial arts clash between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva, Jay decided to bet that the latter would reclaim his championship belt.

Living by the motto of his friend Dan Bilzerian, that "you won't get rich bettin' like a b***h", Jay lumped an impressive $16,000 on the UFC bout at odds of 2/3. Unfortunately, Jay's confidence soon turned to shock as Silva proceeded to shatter his shin in the second round after a leg kick on Weidman went horribly wrong.

Dropping to floor with his leg out of place, Silva was ruled out of the fight on medical grounds and his opponent was declared the winner.

Despite losing the bet Jay was in a reflective mood after the fight and decided to look on it as a positive when he wrote: "I think I've racked up enough tax write-offs for the year. Ready for 2014."
