Jason Mercier wins NAPT Shootout

Friday, 15 April 2011

Anyone emerging from a coma could be forgiven for thinking that they'd woken up in 2010 rather than 2011. After Vanessa Selbst second NAPT Mohegan Sun Main Event victory in two years comes news of Jason Mercier repeating the feat in the Shootout event.

Mercier collected a grand total of $246,000 for the win, earning $142,600 for winning the final shootout table; $40,000 for winning his preliminary table; $14,000 for collecting seven preliminary bounties; $30,000 for three final table bounties; and $20,000 for winning the overall bounty prize.

The newly patched Team PokerStars pro Eugene Katchalov finished second pocketing $68,000 with Michael Pesek picking up slightly more ($70,000) despite finishing a place lower.

Mercier now has a total of ten tournament titles to his name, despite starting playing seriously just three years ago. "There is no real secret to it," Mercier told the PokerStars blog. "I just try to make the right plays and do the best I can." If only it was that simple.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1. Jason Mercier - $246,600
2. Eugene Katchalov - $68,000
3. Michael Pesek - $70,000
4. Jonathan Jaffe - $54,000
5. Taylor von Kriegenbergh - $44,000
6. Jimmie Guinther - $42,000
7. Scott Blackman - $44,000
8. Micah Raskin - $46,000
9. Joe Sweeney - $52,000
