Jason Mercier wins NAPT High Roller

Wednesday, 14 April 2010

If anyone is going to run hotter than the sun on the day of a $25,000 winner-take-all tournament it was Jason Mercier. The tournament legend added another victory to his bulging CV of final tables by taking down the $25,000 NAPT Mohegan Sun High Roller event.

The PokerStars Pro picked up $450,000 for his win in the 35-seat event, taking the prize pool that remained after each player had been awarded $5,000 bounties for each player they eliminated.

Mercier arrived at the final table with the chip lead but it changed hands rapidly before four of the six finalists were eliminated, leaving Mercier and Sam Stein to battle in an epic four-hour heads-up showdown.

In the largest pot of the tournament, all the money went in before the flop. Mercier had pocket treys for a coinflip against Stein’s Ad-Jd. The PokerStars Pro made a straight to cripple Stein and the tournament was over two hands later.

The full list of final table placings and payouts is as follows:

1st: Jason Mercier - $450,000 (7 bounties)
2nd: Sam Stein - $75,000 (3 bounties)
3rd: Faraz Jaka - $80,000 (4 bounties)
4th: Matt Glantz - $70,000 (2 bounties)
5th: Shawn Buchanan - $80,000 (4 bounties)
6th: Luis "Bachy" Vazquez - $70,000 (4 bounties)
