Jason Mercier Heads $50k Players' Championship

Tuesday, 24 June 2014

Jason Mercier is the man to beat heading into day three of the WSOP $50k Players' Championship.

The two-time bracelet winner will return with 802,600, just ahead of former Main Event winner Jonathan Duhamel (783,000) and new father Shaun Deeb (724,400).

By the time registration had closed, 102 players had ponied up the 50 grand, with 55 still in with a shot of a massive score. Among that number are Scott Seiver, Matt Glantz, Eli Elezra, recent Dealer's Choice winner Robert Mizrachi, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier and Phil Ivey.

Defending champion Matt Ashton may have departed but the British challenge remains a strong one where Elior Sion (351,900) will be joined by Richard Ashby (218,000), Stephen Chidwick (215,900) and Talal Shakerchi (38,600).

There will be no repeat Players' Championship win for Michael Mizrachi or Scotty Nguyen though who both exited on day 2. Notables to join them on the rail included Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu and current Player of the Year leader George Danzer.
