Janos Katzenberger wins GSOP Live Malta

The latest leg of the Grand Series Of Poker Live Tour took place at the Portomaso Casino in Malta over the weekend. The €1,600 buy in event once again attracted a big international field and in the end it was Janos Katzenberger who took the honours.

The Hungarian pocketed €72,550 after beating Norway's Ove Stenberg heads up. The pair had similar stacks at the start of two-handed play but Katzenberger took a decisive lead after winning a monster pot with top two pair against Stenberg's botton two pair. The end came soon after with two pair once again feauturing. After the flop and turn had been checked, the Norwegian shoved the AQ5Q9 board. Unfortunately for him, his air bluff couldn't get Katzenberger, who was holding A5 off the hand. €46,725 should provide some consolation though.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1. Janos Katzenberger €72,550
2. Ove Stenberg €46,725
3. Dennis Holst €32,925
4. Erik Backlund €25,475
5. Morten Mortensen €19,150
6. Rafal Arendt €14,875
7. Robert Eriksson €11,675
8. Attila Urbán €9,750
9. Jeppe Bisgaard €8,150

The Platinum Casino in Bucharest is the venue for the next leg of the GSOP from 2nd to 7th February 2011. Qualifiers starting from just just $2 are up and running at Bet24 Poker.
