Jan Ranik leads WPT Prague after Day 1A

Friday, 2 December 2011

The Prague Poker Festival began yesterday with Day 1A of the inaugural WPT Prague – the first of three major tournaments to take place in the city over the next ten days. The festival certainly had a strong start, with 231 players registering.

Of those, 93 survived ten sixty-minute levels of play – though the tournament is a re-entry, so some of the Day 1A casualties like Andy Frankenberger, Melanie Weisner, Shannon Shor and Sam El Sayed may well return for another shot tomorrow.

Leading the 93 survivors into Day 2 action on Saturday is Czech player Jan Ramik, who used the home field to his advantage over the ten-hour day, chipping up to an impressive 209,300 – he accumulated half those chips by the 100/200 level!

Plenty have big names survived the opening flight with November Niners Eoghan O'Dea 142,600 and James Akenhead 89,700 both in the top half of the chip counts. Other notable Day 1A survivors include Tobias Reinkemeier, Dermot Blain, Marty Smyth, Vitaly Lunkin, Dominick Nitsche, John Eames, Chris Brammer and new Team PokerStars Pro Martin Staszko.

The top five chip counts are as follows:
1. Jan Ramik – 209,300
2. Jan Bendik – 180,300
3. Jan Brandejs – 170,000
4. Eran Malkin – 169,200
5. Adria Balaguer – 154,000
