Jail sentence for Zynga poker hacker

Saturday, 19 March 2011

A man who admitted hacking into Zynga Poker and stealing millions of dollars worth of virtual chips has been jailed.

Ashley Mitchell from Paignton, Devon admitted stealing the chips and selling a third of them for £53,000. Judge Philip Wassall sentenced the 29-year-old, who asked for 41 other offences to be taken into consideration, to two years in prison.

The Judge said, “Anyone who has managed to get into these systems for their own ends should expect a stiff sentence.” That was certainly what Mitchell got.

Mitchell received an additional 30 weeks on his sentence for breaking a 40-week suspended sentence he had received in a previous hacking case.
