Jaffee Going For Jacksonville Double

Jaffee Going For Jacksonville Double

Monday, 24 March 2014

Over the last few weeks, a number of World Poker Tour (WPT) events have taken place on the other side of the Atlantic and March 21 saw the WPT Jacksonville bestbet Open begin from Florida.

Commanding a buy-in of $3,500 and featuring some of the world's top players, the main event eventually welcomed 258 competitors with this now whittled down to only 19 after two days of action.

Among the survivors and still in line for a shot at $206,041 via tomorrow's finale is Jason Mercier, who's managed to rake in 298,000 chips. The experienced pro enjoyed a rush of cards at the close of the second day to finish just under the 300,000 chip mark but wasn't able to break into the top ten and challenge the likes of Faraz Jaka or the overall leader, Jared Jaffee.

When play resumes later today, Jaffee will certainly be the man to beat as he's already claimed a WPT title in Jacksonville this season following a win in the Fall Poker Scramble. However, he certainly won't have things all his own way especially if the likes of Mercier and Jaka can gain some traction when the chips go in the air.

Current WPT Jacksonville bestbet Open Chip Standings:

1. Jared Jaffee - 776,000

2. Jordan Cristos - 699,000

3. Nghia Le - 604,000

4. Bryan Irish-Jones - 573,000

5. Sean Winter - 552,000

6. Nabil Hirezi - 520,000
