The field for the opening event of the 2013 World Series of Poker Europe may have been small, just 65 players took to the tables, but there was still a coveted bracelet to be won and after two days of action it was Jackie Glazier who was wearing it.

The Australian has enjoyed deep runs in the World Series before, most notably in the $3,000 NLHE event at the 2012 WSOP where she pocketed $458,996 for a second place finish. Glazier made no mistake this time round though, defeating France's Maryline Valente heads up to claim her maiden bracelet.

It looked like the rail would be in for a lengthy heads up battle with both players holding deep stacks when two handed play got under way. The lead changed hands a number of times in a topsy turvy clash until a pre flop raising battle ended up with both players all in. Valente needed help tabling 6d6s which was well behind the Australian's pocket jacks. A flop of AhQh4s took away any unlikely flush draws with a turn and river of 5d and 7c sealing victory for Glazier.

“I think I’ve had so many close calls and near-misses,” said the winner, “Getting heads-up with the stack sizes being even. The gravity of if I did come second again, I’m not sure how I’d cope with it. I’m sure it would’ve taken me a few days to get over it.”

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
1. Jackie Glazier – €21,850 ($29,613)
2. Maryline Valente – €13,500
3. Laurie Bismuth – €8,950
4. Celine Bastian – €6,330
5. Nathalie Odet – €4,770
6. Sherrill “Dixie” Lindsey – €3,800
7. Gaelle Baumann – €3,200
