JC Tran wins WSOP Event #30 $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha

It was a case of what might have been for the British players at the WSOP yesterday. With John Duthie’s near miss in the Heads Up Championship attention turned to the $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha event where Jeff Kimber and Ross Boatman had reached the final table.

The result was the same though as Jeff Kimber came up just short, losing a heads up battle with JC Tran. The Newcastle man faced a two to one chip deficit going in to heads up play and couldn’t overturn Tran’s lead. The Vietnamese born American sealed the win, getting Kimber to put all his chips in drawing dead to an already made full house.

A delighted Tran, previously seen as a Hold Em expert, said “I learned to play PLO less than two years ago. I play the biggest stakes. I had some swings. PLO is the kind of game where you always have room to learn. Even after I win this bracelet, I still feel I have a lot to learn.”

Kimber earned $145,656 for his runner up finish. Ross Boatman, who finished in fourth collected $66,936 with Andrew Batey, Ali Sarkeshik, JP Kelly and Joe Beevers also making the money.
