Iwan Jones wins GPS Stoke

A host of hopefuls headed to the Potteries over the Bank Holiday weekend for the latest leg of the Genting Poker Series and after three day's of hard fought action Iwan Jones was the last man standing.

Jones outlasted a field of 360 runners in Stoke to walk away with a career best first prize of just north of £32,000.

The Welshman started day 3 second in the chip counts and was there or thereabouts throughout a rapid fire finale. After Jack Allen departed in third Richard Horton looked odds on to take the title, starting heads up play with a 7.5m to 1.5m chip lead.

Jones won a flip with pocket twos against Horton's KQ shortly into two-handed action and didn't look back from there. He took control when his Q10 held against Horton's open ender on a 10 high board and sealed the deal soon after.

The man from Cardiff moved all in with 8-10o and was called by Horton who tabled pocket 3s. A double up looked on the cards after a 6-6-2 flop but an 8 on the turn gave Jones the lead which held after a blank on the river.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st - £32,030 - Iwan Jones
2nd - £25,200 - Richard Horton
3rd - £18,435 - Jack Allen
4th - £12,020 - Matt Simpson
5th -  £8,715 - Alex Spencer
6th -  £6,880 - Will Kassouf
7th -  £5,475 - Dominic Kay
8th -  £4,175 - Andreas Olympios
9th -  £2,880 - Chen Tam
