Ivey eyes another bracelet

Tuesday, 11 June 2013

All eyes will be on Phil Ivey when Day 14 of the 2013 World Series of Poker resumes later this evening. Ivey is well placed to add bracelet number 10 to his collection in the latest $1,000 No Limit Hold'em event.

Ivey lies in 9th place with just 14 of the 2,071 starters still in contention. Of course Ivey won't have it all his own way with the likes of Taylor Paur, Daniel Idema and Kyle Cartwright all still chasing the bracelet and the not inconsiderable sum of $340,260.

The chip leaders are as follows:

1. Taylor Paur – 1,318,000
2. Alexander Barlow – 792,000
3. Adam Sanders – 605,000
4. Douglas Mackinnon – 557,000
5. Phillip Hui – 419,000
6. Daniel Idema – 400,000
7. Robert Deppe – 371,000
8. Tai Nguyen – 359,000
9. Phil Ivey – 285,000
10. Kyle Cartwright – 267,000

The other big story of day 13 at the Rio was Athanasios Polychronopoulos who claimed his second WSOP bracelet after taking down Event #20 $1,500 NLHE. The American worked his way through a big field of 2,105 runners and a final table that included David 'Bakes' Baker and former Main Event winner Joe Cada to walk away with a first prize of $518,755.

Polychronopoulos defeated Manuel Mutke heads up, coming from behind with QJ to beat the German's AJ.

“I ran good. I played OK,” said the grateful winner. “Everyone’s solid. I don’t know how I’m so blessed.”

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
1. Athanasios Polychronopoulos – $518,755
2. Manuel Mutke — $322,908
3. Everett Carlton — $224,445
4. Joe Cada — $161,652
5. Sam Taylor — $118,145
6. Michael Kurth — $87,398
7. Joe Ward — $65,502
8. David “Bakes” Baker — $49,176
9. Thomas Nicotera — $38,178
