Ivey, Antonius and Benyamine accept Durrrr challenge.

Thursday, 8 January 2009

In PokerRoad’s “Tuesdays with Ivey” segment, the legend that is Phil Ivey confirmed that he, David Benyamine and Patrik Antonius will all accept Tom “durrrr” Dwan’s $1.5m 50,000-hand challenge.

Last week 22-year-old multi-millionaire high-stakes God Tom Dwan laid down a challenge to every poker player in the world (except Phil Galfond): offering them 3-1 odds, he wagered that he could beat anyone over 50,000 hands of heads-up $200/$400 or higher PLO and/or NLHE across four tables.

Speculation was that although a player such as Ivey would have the poker skills to hold his own and even emerge triumphant from the challenge, the 4-tabling aspect would challenge them. However, Ivey confirmed his role; Patrik Antonius told Ziigmund (in Finnish on FTP chat – English only, boys!) that he would compete and both mentioned Benyamine’s name.

Antonius said it “doesn’t matter” which game he plays but it will probably be PLO; Benyamine will certainly play his favoured game of PLO and Ivey would likely mix both. Should durrrr win all three bets he stands to win $1.5m in side action as well as cash game winnings over 50,000 hands.
